Gymnastics: Level 5 State Champion!
Dec 17th, 2006  At the Level 5/6 State Championships held December 9th and 10th at SCSU Shoreline Gymnastics wowed the crowd. The level five team won the state championships with a team score of 178.55. Along with the team win, several gymnasts won state titles themselves. 9 year old Alexis Heiney of Ivoryton was the state champ in the All Around with a score of 36.45, she was also state champion on beam with a 9.1 and floor with a 9.3, she was consistent on bars with a 9.175 placing second and vault with an 8.85. Nine year old Juliana Alvord also of Ivoryton placed second in the all around with a 36.025. She was state champ on vault with a 9.4 and placed third on bars 9.1, beam 8.475, and floor 9.05. Nine years old Lindsay Dower of Old Saybrook placed fourth in the all around with a 34.725. On vault she scored an 8.85, bars 8.875, beam 8.45, and floor with an 8.55. Nine year old Taylor Libera of Portland placed 7th with a 33.95 all around. She was very consistent with an 8.5 on vault, 8.4 on bars and beam, and an 8.65 on floor. Nine year old Sarah Jenkins of Norwich placed 9th with an all around of 33.3. She scored 8.85 vault, 8.05 bars, 8.1 beam, 8.3 floor. In the 10 year old age group Jessica Lee of Old Lyme was the all around state champion with a 36.175. She holds the state title on beam with a 9.05, placed 2nd on bars with a 9.275 and third on vault with a 9.15, she scored an 8.7 on floor. In the 12 and up age division Alyssa Giegerich of Old Saybrook placed 9th with a 33.6. She scored 9.25 on vault to tie for third place, 8.2 on bars, 7.1 on beam, 9.05 on floor placing third. In the 7- 8 year old age group Danna Ramcke of Ivoryton did well. She scored 7.35 on vault, 6.8 on bars, 7.9 on beam placing 7th, and a 7.6 on floor. The level six gymnasts did well. Shoreline had four gymnasts and five scores counted for a team place, so states was more of a day for individuals. Ten year old Samantha Lemire of Moodus placed fifth in the all around with a 34.5. She scored 9.4 on vault placing 2nd, 7.9 on bars, 8.75 on beam placing 2nd, and 8.45 on floor. Ten year old Olivia Shropshire of Westbrook placed 6th in the all around scoring 34.175. She scored 9.075 on vault, 7.8 on bars, 8.7 on beam placing third, and an 8.6 on floor. 12 year old Melissa Beglau of Groton scored a 30.9. She scored 8.4 on vault, 7.15 on bars, 7.9 on beam, 7.45 on floor. 13 year old Taylor Tomasetti of Waterford scored 31.55 all around. She scored 8.85 on vault, 7.9 on bars placing 9th, 7.35 on beam, and a 7.45 on floor. |
